Our No Babies or Small Children Policy

VELT has a strict no babies or small children policy. This is to help keep our clients, children and staff safe, while allowing our artists to give every client their full attention.

We understand this may not suit everyone, and that's okay. Different salons have different environments and policies. Here's why this policy is important to us.

Safety

Our artists work with hot wax, sharp tweezers and scissors, adhesives and professional chemical products.

We have previously had a wax pot pulled from a bench, with hot wax going everywhere besides the child, thankfully. It was a reminder that accidents can happen incredibly quickly, even when every precaution is taken.

A child reaching for a product, a baby suddenly needing attention, or a parent looking down while we are working around their face can also create a safety risk.

We simply don't want to take that risk.

Our treatments require concentration

Our services require a high level of precision and constant attention.

With brow tinting, even 30 seconds of movement can affect how the tint develops and the final blend.

With lash lifting and lamination, we are working with individual hairs that can overprocess within seconds. Our artists need to constantly monitor the lashes and products throughout the treatment. Leaving a solution on too long can compromise the condition of the lashes.

This is different from a treatment like a massage, where you can move or pause without affecting the result.

Our artists invest heavily in their training and take enormous pride in their work. We want them to be able to give you 100% of their attention without needing to divide their focus.

The products we use

We also work with professional products including lash adhesives, lash lifting and brow lamination solutions.

Some of these products have noticeable vapours or odours, and while our salon is set up with appropriate ventilation and safety procedures, we don't feel there is a reason to unnecessarily expose babies or small children to professional treatment products when they aren't receiving a treatment themselves.

It's simply another part of the environment we need to consider.

Your appointment is your time

VELT has been intentionally created as a place where your appointment feels like a treat.

We have many clients, including mothers, who tell us that their appointment is one of the only times they get to completely switch off and have time to themselves. They don't want to spend that time listening to children or babies in the background.

We also have clients and staff who have experienced miscarriage, fertility struggles, IVF or pregnancy loss, and for some people, hearing a baby can be incredibly difficult.

We have experienced this firsthand, which reinforced for us how important it can be to create a space where people know they can come in, switch off and decompress.

We know we aren't the salon for everyone

We completely understand that this policy won't suit every family.

There are beautiful salons, including home-based salons, that allow babies and children, and we understand why that can be a great option for some parents.

There are also people who prefer a commercial, child-free environment like VELT.

Neither is right or wrong. They are simply different environments designed to suit different people.

Our policy isn't because we don't like children, and it isn't because we don't understand how difficult childcare can be.

It's because we want to create a safe, calm environment where our clients can switch off and our artists can give you the quality of service they are passionate about providing.

We hope this gives you a little more context around why our policy is the way it is.

Bringing Older Children

If your child is old enough (primary school age) AND is able to sit quietly and independently in the room with you, without requiring supervision from you or our team, they are more than welcome to join you. 

We kindly ask that:

• They remain seated and respectful of other clients and staff

• No sticky foods or drinks are brought into the salon to help keep our space clean and comfortable

• They remain in the treatment room with you, and are not left in the waiting room or walking around.
  

We do not have an exact age on this as we understand all children are different. If you know your child is able to be in the room with you, with no excessive ipad/phone noise (they are welcome to, as long as it cannot be heard across treatment rooms), and is not a distraction to you or staff, then they are welcome to attend. If we feel this requirement is not met, we will message you to advise you.

Please note for some brow appointments, we use the brow room which is shared with other clients and artists. There is not much space so we do prefer you come alone, however they may need to sit on the stool right next to you, as we cannot have children under the age of 12 in the wait room alone.
